Bernhard Gottesburen

Bernhard made a doctoral thesis on a knowledge based agricultural advisory system and a postdoc at Research Center Jülich in Germany on the modeling of fate and transport of pesticides in lysimeters. Thereafter, he joined BASF and formed and lead a dedicated environmental fate modelling team working for fate of pesticides in the environment, from scientific and regulatory perspectives until he recently retired after about 30 years.

He has been a long-time leading contributor of FOCUS (FOrum for the Coordination of pesticide models and their USe) and contributed to the development of guidance documents. He is the founder and co-organizer of the European Modeling Workshops, bringing together pesticide fate and effect modelers that provide a unique platform for scientific exchange between regulatory Authorities, EFSA, Academia, Consultants, and Industry representatives.

After retirement, Bernhard is active in initiatives regarding precision pesticide application (European Precision Application Task Force (EUPAF)) and Linking Exposure and Effects (ELINK2). He works as an independent consultant, bringing forward solutions that “make sense”.
