Pascual García-Pérez

Pascual García-Pérez currently develops his postdoctoral stage at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, where he does research in the field of Agricultural and Food Metabolomics assisted with novel Machine Learning algorithms. The aim of his current research is developing an artificial intelligence (AI)-based framework combined with metabolomics for the valorisation and the design of natural products committed to the improvement of agricultural crops. In particular, his recent research has been focused on the study and characterisation of algal and plant-based biostimulants coping with a wide range of abiotic stresses in tomato and lettuce as experimental models. During his carrer, he achieved a PhD in Advanced Biotechnology at the University of Vigo (Spain), focused on the application of machine learning algorithms to optimise biotechnological solutions committed to the establishment of medicinal plant cell cultures as biofactories of health-promoting compounds, resulting in a total of 8 years devoted to the application of AI in the fields of agriculture and food science. To date, he has leaded and participated in several research lines of great importance to those fields, as proved by more than 50 publications in international journals of high impact, such as Food Chemistry, Frontiers in Plant Science, Scienta Horticulturae, Industrial crops and products, among others, as well as serving twice as Guest Editor for the journal “Horticulturae”.
